‘ALL HEROES WELCOME’ FDNY Recruitment Campaign Features Active FDNY Firefighters from Diverse Backgrounds Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh launched the new FDNY recruitment campaign “ALL HEROES WELCOME.” NYC News Network May 15, 2024 NEW YORK - Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh launched the new FDNY recruitment campaign “ALL HEROES WELCOME.” The campaign, aimed at increasing diversity within the Department, features FDNY Firefighters touting the benefits of joining the FDNY, including flexible schedules, generous City benefits, union representation, and competitive salaries, plus retirement and pension benefits. The filing period for the FDNY Firefighter open competitive exam opens on June 24, 2024. A written exam will be held later this year with a physical exam to follow. This is the first Firefighter exam offered in seven years. “The men and women who work in the FDNY are our frontline heroes who put their lives on the line to keep all New Yorkers safe every day,”

By Claudia Irizarry Aponte The City January 25, 2024 NEW YORK - More than 50 journalists at the New York Daily News went on a 24-hour walkout Thursday, protesting cuts to overtime and slow bargaining talks with the paper’s owner, the hedge fund Alden Global Capital, that have left them without a contract more than two and a half years after unionizing. The Daily News’ 54 union members suspended work to protest a recent policy requiring staff to have prior approval in advance of any overtime, which limits journalists’ ability to report news as it happens, the union said in a press release Thursday morning.
